To enter China, the following travel documents are necessary:
    1. Valid PassportYour passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure date from China and have enough blank visa pages to accommodate entry and exit stamps.
    1. Visa (if applicable)Apply for the appropriate visa category, such as tourist (L), business (M), or other types, unless your country is visa-exempt. Check if your nationality is eligible for China’s 30-day visa-free policies for tourism, business activities, or transit purposes. Visa-exempt travelers should still meet specific entry requirements outlined by Chinese immigration.
    1. Invitation Letter (when required)Certain visa types, including business visas or those for family visits, may require an invitation letter from a Chinese entity, organization, or individual. This document should comply with the requirements specified by the Chinese embassy or consulate handling your visa application.
    1. Proof of Onward TravelFor visa-free entry or short-term stays, prepare confirmed return tickets or tickets for your next destination. This is often required to demonstrate your intent to leave China within the permitted stay period.
    1. Accommodation DetailsHave hotel booking confirmations or the contact information of your host in China readily available. Immigration officers may request this information to verify your planned address during your stay.
    1. Customs DeclarationComplete a customs declaration form if you are carrying large amounts of cash (over CNY 20,000 or equivalent in foreign currency), restricted items, or excess valuables. Failure to declare such items may result in delays or penalties at customs inspection.
Always verify that all documents are accurate and up-to-date with China’s latest entry regulations before your trip. Ensure compliance with specific requirements based on your travel purpose and nationality to avoid any issues at the port of entry.

The 30-day visa-free stay in China is determined as follows: Start DateThe stay commences on the date of entry, designated as Day 1, regardless of the arrival time. For example, arriving on May 1 at any time (even 23:59) counts as the first day of stay. End DateThe authorized stay expires at 24:00 oRead more

The 30-day visa-free stay in China is determined as follows:
    1. Start DateThe stay commences on the date of entry, designated as Day 1, regardless of the arrival time. For example, arriving on May 1 at any time (even 23:59) counts as the first day of stay.
    1. End DateThe authorized stay expires at 24:00 on the 30th consecutive calendar day after entry. If you enter on May 1, the latest departure date is May 30, with the stay valid until midnight of that day.
    1. 180-Day Limitation (for specific countries)Under certain bilateral agreements (e.g., with Malaysia, Thailand), travelers are restricted to a total of 90 days of visa-free stay within any 180-day period. This 180-day window is calculated backward from the current entry date, and all prior visa-free stays during this period are combined. If the remaining days available under the 90-day limit are fewer than 30, the allowable stay will be capped at the remaining days rather than the full 30 days.
    1. Excluded DurationsTime spent in China under other authorizations—such as visas, APEC Business Travel Cards, or residence permits—does not count toward the 30-day visa-free stay limit.
Always check the specific rules applicable to your nationality and refer to the latest entry policies to ensure compliance with China’s visa-free stay regulations.
